Tuesday Night Wines

Hi everybody, Happy Tuesday!  It is a great day, outside it's warm and breezy and my weekly installment of Tuesday Night Value Wines is back, great news I know.  I have been absent as of late, having been back in the states a few months now and finally get life settled back into a routine.  Between a new job and locating a new apartment, which I have found!, as well as life in general I've been consumed with living.  Now things have settled back into place and I am getting back to writing which I love.  And some of the best news is the preparation for Level 3, the Advanced Sommelier Certification has begun.  It seems like I have been helping a lot of people lately with their Sommelier studies, but neglecting my own.  It's an exciting time that I am happy to be a part of.
I am planing on writing a weekly chronicled update on my studies as an interesting 'diary' of a young sommelier working towards his next level, so keep a look out!

Let's talk value wine though.  What better to get back to my roots than to select a wine that expresses my background and will be easy to understand by all: Chianti.

Cecchi (Chec-Key) Chianti Classico 2008

A classicly made representation of what wines from this area in Tuscany are all about. It is made from 90+% Sangiovese and prefectly showcases the tart red cherry and plum skins flavors.  Behind the fruit notes of woodsy earthy emerge, but not driven by oak influence but rather natural flavors.  On the finish there are lingering hints of tobacco/floral hints.
This wine is straight forward and balanced, pleasant without being too complicated.  A great companion to the 15 minute pasta dish.  Keep it simple and pair this with a spicy tomato sauce tossed with spaghetti, fresh basil, and fresh parmesan cheese.  Bon Apetito.

FOr around $15 a bottle, this is a great value bottling that should be readily available. Salute!
